Car Insurance Audi (Car Insurance). Mechanic said I need a wiring harness because my car is dying randomly?Mechanic said I need a wiring harness because my car is dying randomly? My mechanic told me I need a wiring harness for my car because the oil leak I had (that they fixed) saturated the wires. So there's one that needs a wiring harness and that will prevent the car from dying again. It loses power but starts back up everytime. Note everything has been replaced except the tranny. Anyone know what wiring harness I would need? I've researched and found there are several for different purposes. What a load of crap time to find a new mechanic that knows shi t from clay Don't be conned good connections with the wiring means the engine will run under water or oil If every car and truck stopped because of oil all over the wiring there wouldn't be much traffic on the road 2 things that make the engine go is fuel and spark. If it runs then stops get him to explain why it stops is it a lack of fuel and why it isn't getting fuel. if not what part is not supplying the spark is it broken ,loose ,missing "Year?" if the Harness has been soaked for a while it's very likely that it has ruined the insulation the one you need is the one your mechanic is talking about. listen to your mechanic. Well if there was an oil leak, i would assume the leak is from the engine, so an engine harness is the one you need. Go to www.automd.com and input your info plus zip. You will find 3 prices, 1 for the dealer , one for local garage and 1 for doing the repair yourself. good luck.... what i would do ask the guys at auto zone if you can use a spray like carburetor and wire hardness to clean the oil soaked wires to clean it.but before you do check out where the oil has gotten to the wires.if you can disconnect the hardness ,show it to them if not ask them.my guess you can clean it with the spray and if you do buy a slip on wiring cover .if you do notice the wiring has melted insulation your strap on cash tape the bare wires with electrical tape and use the wiring slip on cover to protect the wires.your mechanic should of notice the problem from the beginning. If it runs fine cold then as the motor heats up. Your issue is not a wiring its probably the ignition control module or a coil pack. Whats this in a 4 cyc engine? Bet im right. If it start and runs I really question the wire harness issue. Im not there and I cant see it. Something aint right here. I think I would find another mechanic It would also be helpful instead of ESP what are you driving make and model? Auto parts : Detail Brush Acura 1995 . Duster Alfa Romeo 1996 . Audi . How to Unlock a 95 Mustang Steering WheelThe Ford Mustang is a two-door sports car manufactured and sold by Ford since 1964. The fourth-generation Mustang includes models built between the years 1994 to 2004. This generation of Mustangs shares the same design and similar features, including tilt steering. Tilt steering allows the owner to unlock and adjust the steering wheel to a desirable and comfortable position. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Pull the release lever located to the left of the steering wheel toward you. 2 Tip the steering wheel to the desired position. 3 Release the lever to lock the steering wheel.
Audi . My Key Won't Turn in My Honda's IgnitionThe ignition switch is the main electrical switch in your car. When a key is placed inside the ignition and turned, it is supposed to start your vehicle's engine. Whether you own a Honda or another type of vehicle, you may encounter problems with the ignition switch. The process of fixing it is the same for all vehicles. If your Honda has an automatic transmission, make sure it is in park. The key will not turn in the ignition otherwise. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Pressurized air spray Soap Water Towel Lock lubricant Step by Step : 1 Put your hand on the steering wheel and turn it in both directions while trying to turn the ignition switch. This will help unlock the steering pin in vehicles that have power steering. 2 Spray the inside of the key lock with pressurized air spray to loosen any dirt and debris inside the key lock. You can purchase this at any office supplies store. 3 Clean the key with soap and water and then dry with a towel. Rub a lock lubricant, available at any home improvement or auto repair shop, on the key. 4 Maneuver the key in and out of the ignition while trying to turn it. 5 Use a spare key in the car's ignition. The key you use often to start your Honda may wear down and will not trigger the ignition. If a spare key works, have more copies made at your local home improvement store. Tips & Warnings If the key still won't turn after trying the above steps, you may have to replace or repair any broken parts in or around the steering column. According to 2carpros.com, there's a switch near the steering column that connects the key and vehicle's tumbler. If this is switch breaks, you won't be able to turn the key when it's placed in the ignition. If it's broken, it will need to be repaired or replaced. *Diesel fuel is also measured by its viscosity, which has to do with its thickness and ability to flow. Like any oil, diesel fuel gets thicker and cloudier at lower temperatures. Under extreme conditions, this fuel can become a gel and refuse to flow at all. Diesel #1 flows more easily than Diesel #2, so it's more efficient at lower temperatures. The two types of oil can be blended, and most service stations offer diesel fuel blended for local weather conditions. If you plan to drive in very cold weather, choose diesel fuel rated at least 10 degrees lower than the coldest temperatures you expect to encounter. Consult your owner's manual for specifics. Diesel fuel emissions have been found to be extremely toxic to humans and other living things. Until safer forms of this fuel are developed, be careful not to inhale the fumes while you're pumping it into your fuel tank. Chapter 7: Diesels and Alternatively Powered Vehicles 1 A 1 The good news is that safer diesel fuels are being developed. The top contender, Fischer-Tropsch, is a liquefied natural gas that contains no sulfur and can be used in conventional diesel engines. With the proper converter, it has the potential to be as clean as natural gas. This fuel would be very expensive to create and market, so if you really love diesel engines, it would be wise to lobby for government subsidies and incentives to make this fuel (or compara-. ble diesel fuels) affordable. For more about this topic, see "Designer diesel," later in this chapter. The diesel fuel sold at truck stops is often cheaper than at service stations, and the fuel is fresher, too. Freshness is important because diesel fuel can easily become contaminated by the water vapor that condenses in fuel tanks, and by fungus and other microbes that can clog filters and fuel injectors. <\V ^"~~~ ^ vo u *mc* y°urseM at a station that arouses your suspicions, look for slimy stuff on the nozzle of the fuel pump. If, despite these precautions, the fuel in your tank becomes contaminated, see "Curing a sick diesel" later in this chapter. Try to fill up at a truck stop on a Saturday morning, when commercial trucking action is light. Weekday evenings are the worst times to buy. Muscling a small vehicle into a crowd of big rigs isn't easy! The electrical system Diesels require more stored energy for starting than conventional vehicles do, especially on cold days. Instead of just using the battery to enable the starter to crank the engine, as gasoline-powered engines do, a diesel must have sufficient power to enable the glow plugs to warm the combustion chambers and then must build up enough heat and compression in the cylinders to ignite the fuel. For this reason, diesels must possess considerably more battery capacity than conventional vehicles. Some diesels come equipped with two batteries, while others feature a single oversized battery, which may be more than 50 percent bigger than one found on a conventional car. 353

Aside from this, electrical systems on diesels are pretty much the same as those on conventional vehicles, with alternators, solenoids, and starters performing their usual functions. For information about these components, see Chapter 5. U2 Part II: What Makes It Go?. vNt\0N Emergency substitutes Theoretically, diesel engines should be able to diesel engines on the premises, and some Good run on kerosene, certain airplane fuels, and home Samaritan may take pity on you and let you have heating oil, but do not use these in your vehicle some. under any circumstances. So run on these panies, food processing plants, electric plants, fuels only long enough to get to the nearest hospitals, and farms. These places usually have source of proper fuel. Caring for your diesel Regular maintenance is absolutely imperative if you want a diesel engine to last, and every diesel owner will probably need to handle certain pitfalls and problems. To help you deal with maintenance and repair issues — even if you're not the one doing the work — this section covers the regular mainte nance that a diesel engine needs, how to get your engine started when the weather turns cold, and what you can do to heal a sick diesel. If you own a conventional vehicle and you get sloppy about maintenance and don't change the oil often enough, you'll probably end up with an engine that's aged prematurely. If you own a diesel and do the same thing, you may end up with an engine that's prematurely dead. The same goes for changing filters: A dirty fuel filter can impair a conventional vehicle's performance, but dirty fuel can clog a diesel's fuel injection system, and you may need expensive professional help to get back on the road again. As a rule, you won't be able to clean or adjust a diesel's fuel injectors your self, but they can last 100,000 miles or more if you take proper care of the vehicle. If you maintain your vehicle according to the directions in the owner's manual, you should have few problems. After all, truckers have always preferred diesels because they find them to be tough, reliable, and cheap to run and maintain. . Chapter 7: Diesels and Alternatively Powered Vehicles J A! ? Most diesels are designed so that the owner can perform regular maintenance chores without an undue investment in time and money. The following sections cover these tasks in general terms; your owner's manual should contain the rest of the information you need. Audi . A quick look at the proper sections in the manual should tell you whether you can do the job yourself. If you're not sure, ask someone in the service area to show you where the oil, air, and fuel filters are located and what's involved in changing or servicing them. Most mechanics are pretty nice about that kind of thing. If the job really is easy, they won't make enough on it to make lying to you worthwhile; if the job isn't so easy, you'll be happy to have them do it for you. Changing the lubricating oil Because diesel fuel is sometimes called diesel oil, be aware that the oil you have to change is not the fuel oil, but the oil that lubricates the engine. This job requires lubricating oil that's specially designed for diesel engines, rather than the lubricating oil designed for gasoline-powered vehicles. After you understand that distinction, the actual work involved is the same as it is for conventional vehicles — except that you have to do the task more often. Be sure to check your oil dipstick at least once a week (following the instructions in Chapter 3) and change the oil filter every time you change the oil (see Chapter 15 for additional instructions). Don't be surprised if you change the lubricating oil in your diesel, run the engine for two minutes, and check the dipstick only to find that the new oil has turned pitch black; this is normal. Your owner's manual tells you what kind of oil to use and the maximum intervals you can wait between changes, but I believe that the more often you change the oil on any vehicle, the longer the vehicle will live and the healthier it will be. That goes double for diesels because extreme heat and pressure help to contaminate the lubricating oil more quickly. Because the procedure is the same, all the instructions for changing oil and oil filters in Chapter 15 are relevant, except for the oil classification codes. (The classification codes for automotive oils tell you which oil to use under a specific set of conditions.) These are the codes for diesel lubrication oils: 0 CA: For use with low-sulfur, high-quality fuels only CB: For use with high-sulfur, low-quality fuels on vehicles subjected to low to medium stress * CC: Protects against rust, corrosion, and high temperatures under Audi .
